I Know Someone: Kabale
Kabale Tache - Marsabit, Kenya
The mission of the I Know Someone campaign is simple - get to know someone that is living with AIDS. Kabale is one of our friends who inspires us greatly. Becoming HIV+ while caring for her sister who was dying of AIDS, Kabale won't let her status be a death sentence.
Living openly about her status, she encourages her fellow community members to get tested, get educated, and get care when it is needed. There is a stigma that comes with being HIV+ and it prevents a lot of people to get the proper care they need for fear of being an outcast in the society...this can prove to be fatal.
Because of community members like Kabale and HIV/AIDS clinics like the Tumaini Clinic in Marsabit, people can get the education, testing, and care they need and also feel the support of their community.
