Why I Care: Charles Peters
Post written by: Charles Peters
I listen to a lot of records these days. In high school I read a lot of books, and in my first year of college I read a lot poetry. I found really quickly that the type of art that has stuck around has been art about a bitter struggle against something and it's always dovetailed something worth fighting for.
Whether it's Jeff Tweedy's fight against his own addictions or Allen Ginsberg writing about the great machine complex of Mccarthyist America. There's a central theme to the art that's really stuck with me. It's the story.
And lately I've been invited into a deeper story. It's another story about struggle and something worthing fighting against. It's the story of Sub-Saharan africa it's a story of real people and strong communities who fighting in the AIDS crisis. It's a story that we're welcome to share the struggles of people who need resources.
Don't get me wrong these countries like Uganda and Ethiopia are strong countries who can fight against this disease give the right resources. I've heard stories of communities that have completely transformed given clean drinking water.
It's a story about something worth defending, like human life. It's a story about something worth fighting against, like AIDS. It's a story worth being a part of.
