Community Empowerment in George, Zambia
In the small rural village of George, Zambia, community empowerment isn't just talked about, its happening. Average people are stepping up as leaders to solve everyday problems. The hand pump well in George had been broken down for about five months, and the community waited for someone to come and fix it. As time passed, leaders realized they needed to take the initiative to repair it. Together, the community saved up 150 kwacha, the equivalent of $30 USD and approached SHIP, Blood:Water Mission's local partner, to repair the damaged pump. Now, the well is in working condition and back to providing the community with safe water.
