I Know Kabale

Kabale Tache - Marsabit

It is clear when you meet her that Kabale is a respected woman in her community.  Kabale is a caregiver to many people including her peers living with HIV, and to her five children, four of which are adopted.  When she became ill, she was taken by her daughter on a 3-day journey to a hospital which was the nearest medical facility for HIV testing. She learned that she was HIV positive and had been infected while caring for her late sister.  Now because of the nearby Tumaini Clinic in Marsabit, she and her neighbors have access to testing and the necessary medications to live healthy lives. She became one of the founding members of the Duran Dema support group for those living with HIV/AIDS and proudly states that the group has grown to 171 members who find hope and support in one another.
